Argentina TIP now restricted to 3 months???? (Papierkram)

Regarding the difference between the written rules and the practical application of the rules, the previous owner of my vehicle came up against a problem when entering Argentina (at Pase de jama). First, as seems to be always the case, they would only give him 3 months, BUT more serious, they were not going to let him in at all because their records showed 4 previous entries - one going back several years - and no corresponding exits. He had to call in at the state HQ to get it sorted out.

Turned out that he had exited via some small border posts that were not on the network and the updates were never entered into the system. Fairly easily sorted out, although with a fair bit of inconvenience, because their movements could be tracked via their passport entries, but even that isn't definitive.

Recommendation is to always get a copy of your TIP stamped at the exit border post and make sure you keep them for several years.

He was told that the number of months allowed is solely at the whim of the border officials and the HQ wasn't going to get involved and couldn't change what had been granted. To get the 8 months that was needed he had to do a major detour to the next border post, cross over and come back the next day.
