As a very happy owner of a 911 (4 years traveling 3 continents). I know very well its capabilities. It is a vehicle build by the german industry in a time they took pride in building high quality high performance products. Any other vehicle including landrover/landcruiser will break down earlier, this truck will go where many landrovers don't, because of hight and distance between axles.
Mercedes has a world wide garantee of parts, the mechanics are that simple that any farmer will fix it if you can't.
I garantee you that i have spend the night in places many can only dream of.
I you want to see south america that has asfalt or gravel, don't buy it! If you want to cross the andes in places where others don't if you want to see desert and jungle, consider it.
Price wise it is not bad, age means expirience in this case what can break has already broken and is fixed, you'll have to maintain it no more, i say this without seeing it up close.
Mine is not for sale, but for less than 30/35 thousand i do not consider selling it.
