Ablauf Autoverkauf

Nun hat der Ami folgendes geschieben:

Hello everyone. First let me thank each of you for your concern and help. This is the situation. On February 24, 2014 I flew to Buenos Aries. I had found a vehicle for sale on a website and had researched the purchase of a vehicle in Argentina. I understood that if a U.S. citizen purchased a vehicle titled in Argentina he would not be allowed to leave the country with that vehicle even for a short time. Since I also wanted to visit Chile I looked for a U.S. vehicle for sale, which I did find. This vehicle was purchased in California and driven to Argentina. The owner, Frank Rogowski, eventually wanted to return home and so put his vehicle up for sale. In Buenos Aries the seller and I went to a lawyer who made up a bill of sale, and an authorization for me to drive the car until the title was changed when I returned to the U.S.. All of this paperwork was then notarized in Buenos Aries. We then took this paper work and the sellers temporary importation papers to the main customs office in Buenos Aries where the they issued me a new temporary importation paper for the vehicle. I was assured by the lady doing the transaction that everything was correct and legal. At that time there were several other people from different countries in that office doing the same paperwork.

I drove the car for two months and went most of the places I had always dreamed of in Argentina. On three different occasions I crossed into Chile to visit different sites and returned to Argentina going through customs with no problems. On April 19th I again crossed into Chile and on April 20th ( Easter Sunday ) crossed back into Argentina. At the crossing there a customs agent said it was not legal for a U.S. citizen to purchase a U.S. vehicle in Argentina and seized the vehicle from me. He would not show me the law. A document written in Spanish was drafted and I was made to sign it even though I argued that I could not read Spanish and therefore had no idea of what I was signing. My friend that I was travelling with and I were then left without any transportation and forced to pay for a bus to Buenos Aries and end our vacation weeks early. When I asked what was to become of my vehicle I was told it was a "donation to Argentina" . When I asked about recieving information about any hearings concerning the matter they put the mailing address of the border crossing customs office for my address, so of course I will never be notified of any hearings. They then took all of my paperwork that I have previously listed including the California title in my name and refused to make copies for me.
My final concern is that when I left that office I was told that because of the infraction there would probably be a large fine besides the seized vehicle and if I returned to Argentina I could be arrested. I am a police officer in the U.S. and therefore am concerned about that, especially because I had planned on revisiting Argentina later this year.
I do not understand what has happened. I do not know if there was a mistake, or if there was a mistake who made it or if my vehicle was just stolen from me by a corrupt officer. I doubt that anything can be done at this point especially since I am now back in the U.S. and my vehicle is in Patagonia, however I do appreciate the concerns of each of you and thank you for that.
Thank you. Joe Peterson
I have attached the document I was forced to sign. Hopefully it is not a murder confession!
