Another way of doing it is to nominally travel on your own, but to be prepared to hook up with other travellers you meet on the way. Do it on a casual basis for a day or two or week or two and then when time is right, just go your own way until the next time. Trying to organize a formal convoy for a twelve-month trip is setting everyone up for certain failure, not only because of personality clashes but because there is an infinite number of possible itineraries and yet not a single itinerary that will suit all interests.
