Reading the blogs it seems very much a matter of random luck even when you declare on the form correctly. Reports of one traveller having everything taken including all the spices while the friend's truck standing a metre away was inspected by a different official and had nothing confiscated.

First question at every border is have you anything to declare and the safest answer is always yes. Normally I get part way into my declaration of what I might have that could be of interest and get waved through.
