We sold our truck camper in Chile. Original plan was to both go to the border to do the swap but the only easily accessible border had both posts at the same spot so swapping plates would have been a bit iffy.

I had a poder drawn up in Santiago and the new owner used it to enter/leave three countries before he found a border where there was enough of a gap to swap the plates.
Obviously requires that the original TVIP still be valid, plus we also had two insurance policies in force to cover the changeover period
