In Australia the rabies vaccination requires three shots - at $100 for each shot.

We get a few weeks supply of Doxycyclin whenever we are going anywhere where malaria might be a problem and take it only when necessary. Spent three months in Mexico including the areas where malaria is said to be a problem but I didn't bother taking anything for it because it was the dry season (1 day of rain in three months) and there just weren't any mozzies around. Summer wet season would be a different matter though.
