VISUM (Sonstiges)

Most countries require visas of some sort and many of them charge for the privilege - USA charges for the long-term visas, Mexico charges for visa and import papers, Argentina has a fairly expensive reciprocity fee etc etc. Many others are low cost or free

What visa you get depends on your plans. 6 months in the USA gives you plenty of scope for spending 12 months or more touring Canada, USA and Mexico and you can repeat that as long as you want before heading further south. If you don't want to go to the trouble of a long term visa then go into the US under the 90 day program and arrange your itinerary accordingly.
Don't forget that most countries have two constraints - personal visa validity period (which can depend on your nationality) and vehicle importation validity and they are often vastly different in time and ease of extending them.
Some countries - eg Brazil - allow you to reset the clock just by going over the border and then returning, while USA won't reset the clock just by going over the border to Canada or Mexico.
Too many variations means needing to do a bit of research so you know what to expect as you move from country to country
