Hello fellow travelers,
does anyone know a notary/escribano in Argentina close to the Brazil/Argentinian border who would do a car sale/poder?

It is forbidden in Argentina to transfer a car from a another country...some noatries do it other do not do it.
Take care that the old owner leaves the country with you and the car to clear the TIP.
Notaries you will find in every little city.

The reason for using a notary is to draft a poder which is the way the current owner gives you official permission to drive his vehicle including over a border - and that is quite accepted by customs of many countries.
As stated, any attempt to officially sell a foreign vehicle to another foreigner is likely to come unstuck and end up with an official confiscation. Any document concerning an illegal act is automatically invalid so no point in doing it. (I have copies of one such confiscation document if you need proof)
The idea is to get the vehicle to the border and then swap plates and documents to get it into the next country in your own name. Still just as illegal but not as blatant and most get away with it provided they do things the "right" way.
