Hello fellow travellers,
does anyone have up to date information on crossing borders with a car which is not registered in your name, but for which you have a power of attorney (poder)? I know that there are problems if not the person who is noted in the import papers but another person tries to exit the country. But if you exit together with the person whose name the car is registered at, and then get the new import papers in your name, are there still problems at future border crossings just because of the fact that you are not the owner?

Wir haben eine gemacht in der Schweiz und hoffen, dass die Grenzübertritte kein Problem sind.

We have made one in Switzerland and hope that the border crossings are no problem.

if you buy a car and the tip is on the name of the owner he has to be present to leave the country.
to enter peru you have to be the owner of the car!

Thanks very much kurt and pickypalla for your help. Pickypalla, do you know that we need to be owner of the car to enter Peru from your own experience, or do you have any website where this is clearly stated? I saw many different informations regarding this on various websites. Thank you very much.

in chile your padron is just a peace of paper without watermark or anything. it arrives 2 to 3 weeks after you have been at the notary. so when you leave before you just get a scan...
so, i havent had my original, just a printed scan and this already made problems and took time. i showed them the alternative with authorization and poder which i used for other countries in the mean time but in peru they said immediately that this doesn´t work.
of course there are always some stories where it worked or where they bribed the custom. but according to the rules, you should be the owner...
