Leaving a vehicle in Brazil (Straßen & Routen)

Given that Brazil is said to no longer issue Temporary Import Permits, has anybody got practical confirmation that it is possible to leave a vehicle there for extended periods and go home for a few months without problems with getting the vehicle out when you return.

Hi Tony
We have done it from March 2013 (entering still with the document the Brazilian authorities issued) and then left the country in February 2014. No problem at the border crossing (Chuy Brazil-Uruguay) since they do not stop the cars there. At a border crossing where they stop every car, it might be a bit more complicated when they start checking your passport stamps and they see that you entered by an airport. We were also checked once within the country by a police, but they just wanted to see the vehicle registration.
