Depends where you're from and where you're going. Most police don't have a clue what they're looking at. Just a name and a photo. But in Bolivia z.b. after 1month you require an international driving licence, and there in lies your downfall, for they will read it spanish that you have no licence. And the cops in Bolivia are looking for any excuse for a Bribe. Also there are rare cases of educated customs guys at borders, but they are rare.
