My favourite saying is

"No matter how deep a study you make, what you really have to rely on is your own intuition, and when it comes down to it, you really don't know what's going to happen until you do it."
Konosuke Matsushita

but your question is quite sensible even if there is no definite answer.

One thing you could do is to visit iOverlander.com and de-select all the place types except "Warning" and set the "Place visited in the last" to 1 year, and zoom in to the countries you are interested in and see what sort of warnings other travellers have left. Most will be concerning road conditions, but there might be a few genuine serious safety and security issues, some of which can be ignored on the basis of terminal stupidity, and some can be discounted.

If there were serious safety issues you can be pretty sure they would be reported there. Over a couple of years when I moderating all new entries on ioverlander, the number of serious events right across the whole Americas was just a handful and even world wide it was nothing more than shit happens anywhere, anytime sort of stuff.
