Überziehen in Brasilien (Papierkram)

I was lucky when I took a calculated risk by leaving my camper in Brazil for 12 months. My friends in Brasilia - all fairly high-ranking public servants - convinced me to leave it there instead of driving all the way to Uruguay, by insisting there was no system of fines for overstaying a vehicle. In the end we didn't test their advice because we crossed into Bolivia via Pantanal North and the Customs officer had a little chat about nothing in particular and waved us through without asking for the TVIP -- which was just as well because I didn't have one.
