Just watch the "no TIP" for Brazil claims because many or most of the southern borders DO issue TIPs and have been for nearly a year.
In my experience it is much safer to carry out this swap at borders where the two border posts are many kilometres apart. Becoming less and less unfortunately, but then there is no chance of getting caught out with paperwork that doesn't match because between posts there is no paperwork.

Uriguay usually grants 12-moth TIPs and Argentina 8-month TIPs with some borders granting only 90 days
