Seems to me that the various countries have vastly different attitudes to do with many aspects of our travels - so it might help if you specify which country.

For instance, some let you travel back home and leave the vehicle behind so if you never intended to come back, you could just leave it somewhere and fly out. Do you have an active carnet on the vehicle that needs a refund. etc etc
