Hi, da sich unser Roadtrip in beinahe einem Monat schon wieder dem Ende neigt, stellt sich uns die Frage wie wir unseren Mini-Van am besten zu Geld machen können bevor wir den Rückflug antreten. Registriert ist das Auto in B.C. Canada. Gibt es irgendwo eine Anleitung wie wir vorgehen müssen und hat irgendwer generelle Tipps? Wo müssen wir vorstellig werden, welche Papiere gilt es zu besorgen und was wird uns das ungefähr kosten? Müssen wir an die Grenze, um einen Prozess zu durchlaufen, so dass wir mexikanische Kennzeichen bekommen? Bislang habe ich leider nur recht alte Informationen online finden können. Möglicherweise weiß hier ja jemand genauer Bescheid.

du hast nur eine möglichkeit, usa oder ein anderen .
verkaufen in mx ist nicht möglich,wer was anderes
schreibt hat keine ahnung.
an einen käufer in usa verkaufen,papiere umschreiben und
dann nach mx wieder einreisen. das fahrzeug bekommt dann
eine aufendhalt für 10 jahre.

Nicht ganz so richtig
Bei Einreise mit PKW und VAN wenn es nicht um einen RV Wohnmobil handelt bekommst nur 6 Monate in Mexiko. Selbst erlebt,allso wahr.

If it is A British Columbia registration, story is that it is VERY difficult to transfer registration and ownership unless both buyer and seller are in BC.
That leaves the option of providing a PODER that allows someone else to drive your vehicle and may also be good enough to get him across some or even most of the borders in Central and South America, but then he will never be able to sell it because you will always have legal ownership (and responsibility). Insurance may also be a problem.
Or there is Photoshop which works for some but is really asking for a spell in the local prison in case of an accident.

Mostly it doesn't make much difference in which non-original country you sell it in because it is always going to be technically illegal unless you go through the process of legally importing it into the country first - an expensive and time-consuming process that may not be possible anyway. Good rule of thumb is to not do something outside of your country that you wouldn't do inside your own country. Buying a vehicle with no title, out of registration and with dodgy paperwork is one such.
So the overlanders are forced to improvise and the result is that some buyers get royally ripped off by sellers whose ethics would make even the dodgiest used car salesman blush and in fact end up paying big fines, import taxes or have the vehicle confiscated.

Not an isolated story - just that most people realise they have been had and go quietly, so we don't hear about them.
The level of improvisation ranges from laughably-naive right up to being close to legal and close to 100% successful, but the problem is there is no method that is general enough to be given as good advice so people resort to doing whatever research they can and then try to come up with something that is acceptable to both buyer and seller.
My advice would be for a buyer to do the research, insist on the seller sorting out the method and any required paperwork, paying half up front and the remainder once the vehicle is "safely" over the border into the next country. Even then, nothing is guaranteed and people have lost their vehicle months and several border crossings after they took it over.
