Rudi, our 1994 Ford Explorer, has brought our pre-owners on a 4 year long adventure drive from Canada to Argentina. We also love him dearly and would take him with us if we could.
He has everything one needs, comes with a built in bed including foam mattresses and pillows, a LOT of camping and cooking gear like plates, cutlery, pans and pots etc., a 2 burn propane stove including 5kg propane gas bottle (easy to refill yourself) and so on.
The bed is constructed in two parts so you are able to use the original back passenger seats whenever you like (to pick up hitch-hikers to split fuel cost eg).
The large tarpaulin with poles can be put up easily as an extra shelter to make outdoor living and cooking in any environment a bit more comfortable.
The car is big enough to feel safe and cosy, but small enough to drive in the narrowest streets. It fits in every parking lot, the height is never an issue. Sleeping in your own car (in front of a Hostel, on a guarded parking lot or in wild nature) not only saves you money on accommodation, it is quite a unique travel experience as well. Rudi blends in everywhere, no one thinks you are a wealthy traveller.
