And that takes us to the current debate around the non-issue of TIP when you go into Brazil. While it certainly hasn't been tested yet, some are claiming that this means you should be able to enter with the vehicle, leave without and fly out it within the validity period of your own visa, return on a new visa, pick up your vehicle and drive out of Brazil.

As I said, unlike the situation in Argentina and Uruguay, this HAS NOT been tested by anyone, but sounds possible.

What has been tested is someone drove into Brazil recently, was not issued with a TIP, sold the vehicle to another foreigner and flew home. What I don't know is whether the new owner has driven it out of Brazil yet.

If so, that would be a good start to Brazil becoming the new storage and vehicle swap country. And why not. We appreciate why the laws are there, but people have been mostly successful in getting around them in Argentina and Uruguay and the practice is actually beneficial to the countries that condone it, simply because the next buyer ends up staying and spending, and the intent of the law isn't compromised
