I figure if I keep asking, someone will eventually reply with an authoritative answer.
Given that Brazil now don't issue TIPs (verified or just rumour???), and presumably doesn't endorse your passport in any way (verified or not???) does that mean you can leave your vehicle in Brazil and fly back home for a few months.

Many other travelers have told me that there are no more TVIPs issued in Brasil. A few days ago I entered Brasil with my vehicle and I also was not issued a TVIP. The aduanas process was he checked that the name on my passport and teh name on my car registration were the same, and then he said 'have a nice trip'. There are essentially no controls anymore.
I know of many bikers who have left their bikes in brasil while they themselves returned home, then later the bikers returned to brasil and drove the bikes out without issue.
The TVIP in Brasil is no longer an issue. Frankly i would encourage all travelers to think about using long term parking in Brasil rather than Uruguay. There are many more parking options, there are more international flights from Brasilian cities, and the luggage restrictions on Brasilian flights are 2 checked bags of 70 lbs each.

So that just leaves the shortness of the personal visa as the problem - which is a problem in other countries as well so nothing too specific to Brazil.
For this part of the trip I was hoping to do a bit of southern Brazil and maybe a dip into Uruguay if it sounds interesting enough then into Bolivia and Peru and then north and leave the vehicle in Northern Brazil before leaving and returning for the Central American stage in the next 6-month segment

But you have to know that the law says car/bike and driver are an unit.
If you leave the country you have to do it with your vehicle.
That`s the law.

"That`s the law."
There is the law as it is written, the law as it is interpreted, and the law as it is applied - and they can be vastly different
It is also the law in Argentina - as people find out if they make the mistake of asking an official - but people leave their vehicles behind all the time.
Brazil used to issue TIPs but now they don't, so there has been a big change - BUT since it is only a recent change, we don't know how it works in practice, officially or unofficially. Hence my question.
