"I am in the process of compiling the climatic data of the individual countries in a yearly survey, so that we, among other things, do not get into 2x4-problematic "water"."

Good luck with doing that.

Trouble is that while many countries have sections that are subject to different latitude-related climates - eg monsoons in the northern part of South America, at the same time parts are subject to hugely different climates because of altitude and according to which side of the Andes they are on. Quite possible to drive from 35C in Lima to below zero just a few hours west on top of the mountains and then into 35C and 100% humidity on the Amazon plains. Came over Paso Sico where it was below freezing at night and less than a day later we were in the middle of the Atacama desperately seeking shade and a couple of hours later we were right on the coast and dripping wet from sea fog.

When we drove down the carretera austral we had one night of rain and the rest was warm dry and dusty. Then similar weather back over and down to Ushuaia and then while there we had 3cm of snow the day after christmas.

Nike expresses it simply - "Just do it!!"

or another grander way of putting it was ""No matter how deep a study you make, what you really have to rely on is your own intuition, and when it comes down to it, you really don't know what's going to happen until you do it."
