Reading what you have posted, it seems to me that you are not really wanting to start a discussion, but to complain about the actions and inactions of your fellow travelers who are not doing the right thing according to your requirements.

Are you aware of the history of iOverlander? Perhaps not, in which case you might find time to visit https://www.facebook.com/ioverlander/ and read through the pinned post at the top and follow the links.

I guess the other question is how much did you pay to get access to iOverlander. Zero dollars and zero cents which given the huge benefit it gives to hundreds and hundreds of appreciative overlanders is probably one of the biggest bargains of all times.
Also, what entries have you made on iOverlander. Perhaps you could give us the url of say 10 or 20 of your entries so we can all learn what a perfect entry should look like.

Yes, I agree that in an ideal world every traveler who makes an entry should research everything to the nth degree and never make a mistake AND gaze into a crystal ball to make sure that hostel or wild camping spot will stay open, if not forever, then at least until you pass by.

However, some things change over even a very short time. One traveler finds an amazing spot and publishes all the details and then a month later another traveler comes along and finds it exactly as described BUT he leaves rubbish behind or cuts down a tree or is rude to the owner so the place is put out of bounds. You come along and the place is closed. Stiff shit for you. Get over it.
But you want everything verified. By whom? 20,000 places now all over the world. Will you verify them say once every 2 years?

Get some paper maps and rely on your own judgement instead of blaming someone else who is really only trying to do you a favour by entering the place in the first instance.. Altitude is not even a mandatory field so can't be relied on

As I said, look at your maps or get your own mapping application that shows contour lines

. 4 With camping facilities often comes the term "Big Rig" before. This place is suitable for big rigs or not suitable for big rigs the entrance is n ....now the driver, for example, I am. 340 cm, this goes.

You drive a big rig so it is totally your problem. Lots of roads or power lines and TV cables hang lower than your vehicle and plenty of gates are narrower and lots of bridges are not able to take your weight. Do you run into the town halls to complain about all of those or do you realise you are pushing the envelope and need to be flexible in your approach to your travels. Look around and see all the different types and capability of vehicles and surely know that probably every driver thinks his rig is a big rig. Define "big" What about the large number of places with "unknown" against some of the attributes. Do you write all of those off or do you try and read between the lines and maybe take a chance anyway. Are you insisting that everyone, walkers aand cyclists carry a tape measure to measure height and width of everything

Lots of complaints. Anyone would think your arm was being twisted to make you use it. You can review any of these places and check in and edit anything on the site so it will be correct until it changes once again. You can also mark it closed. It is a cooperative venture that anyone can contribute to and anyone can make whatever use of they see fit. Pay back and pay forward, or just complain and do nothing

Or you could just read the entry and see that the last check in was 2 months ago or maybe 5 years ago and use that information to inform

Perhaps you could visit ioverlander.com and click on <Help Wanted>. Then you have a choice of

--- http://blog.ioverlander.com/help-wanted/i-have-time/

or if you are time-poor and money rich then perhaps

--- http://blog.ioverlander.com/help-wanted/donate/ might be more convenient or ---
there is always a need for excellent data to improve the overall standard of ioverlander.
