Information was that as long as you have a valid TIP you are covered automatically. Supposedly a new system was to be introduced for foreign vehicles by the middle of 2015, but obviously it was too hard to implement.

Since the fine for overstay is said to be US$350 a DAY, I guess not being insured is probably the least of your worries.
