try the top of Bernal Hill in Bernal Heights. it's a little park where lots of people hike, walk, jog and walk their dogs in a very nice neighbourhood. it's probably officially not aloud, but if you keep a low profile you'll be fine for a few days. from here you can easily go down the hill to Mission area and the rest of SF. beautiful views of the whole city! we watched the moon eclipse here
