Peru is a bit of a ripoff compared to other places. Cusco wanted about the same per month but there the police and customs cost about $20 to suspend our TIP for 8 months and most of that was for taxi fares.

Other places - Ibarra Ecuador US$1 per day, Quito airport $2 per day but we had to get a 6-month visa costing $240 each because we wanted to be away longer than 3 months
Argentina about $50 a month no other charges.
Uruguay similar.
Panama (I think) $1 a day in one customs lockup.

As I said, Peru is a ripoff but sometimes there is little choice
