Work?? What's that? You mean that money earning pursuit we gave up about 10 years ago.

It is a standard B1/B2 tourist visa that is good for 5 or 10 years and lets you visit for periods of up to 6 months and there is a secondary advantage that you can enter on a one way ticket and buy the outward ticket once the plans are firm...

Need to fill out a 45 page on line application and then attend the local consulate for a grilling and if they like the look of you, you get to be able to enter and help their economy back up on its feet.

Maybe not available to all nationalities - perhaps just to citizens of the Coalition of the Willing or similar.

6 months at a time in the USA - or any country for that matter - is more than long enough as you will find out if you ask the thousands of snowbirders who spend their life on the road travelling from Alaska and Canada down to Florida or Texas or Mexico and then back again every year.
