We use a Garmin Nuvi with Open Street Maps and are pretty happy with how it works. Only problem comes if trying to get it to work out a very long route because it often decides on some pretty silly routing. Part of the problem is said to be that OSM sometimes has small gaps in the roads so the software concludes that a route is not possible and goes the long way around.

Also use OSM in Australia and Europe and Turkey and same limitations apply.
