Don't know about Bolivia. We initially got only 30 days for both visa and TIP and had to get it extended by making visits to separate immigration and aduana offices. I believe 60 day TIP is more common but 30 day visa fairly common. As always your experience may differ. You will neeed to get advice about leaving the vehicle behind and exiting and entering before the visa and/or TIP expires. Some reports say some countries won't allow it under any circumstances (Chile and Bolivia ????) - and I have heard that applies to Argentina and Uruguay as well under their laws. Just that if you don't draw attention to it, nobody will care too much, especially if you exit via an airport.

Argentina routinely give 8-month TIP and 30 day visa and you can get the visa extended. Uruguay is the other main country used if leaving a vehicle behind for long periods is required. We have done it in Peru, but that requires a valid excuse and is a lot of messing around to arrange.

Heaps of travellers leave their vehicles in Argentina - various places - and fly out home and return so they can exit the country before the 8 months are up. HOWEVER, there are a couple of border posts that are notorious for giving only 3 months TIP and pleading doesn't do much good. Paso Jama is one. If that happens then only thing is to go to another border, exit and next day return and hope for 8 months. Other posts may often give you 90 day but willingly give you 8 months if you ask before they fill in the appropriate box.

Paraguay 12 months and 90 day visa (I think) BUT enter at a port and you may only get 90 days.

Border officers have absolute discretion to grant you any time from the maximum legally allowable right down to zero and there is no appeal - just like the border officials in every other country in the world including mine and yours.

Make sure you are very clear about the last valid date. Sometimes it is 30, 60, 90 days and other times it might be calendar months. Get it wrong and you might be in all sorts of trouble in some countries. Some just fine you by the day, others might confiscate your vehicle.

Also check visa requirements. EU citizens normally get it easy but USA Australian and Canadians have a hard expensive time of it.
