"Ooops - should I have answered in English? I'm so used to this being a German Forum. "

I'd say that the ability to use Google translate is essential to those considering international travel. I've used it to communicate with a mechanic in Mexico, police patrols used it to let us know they would drive past and keep an eye on things, ande the corrupt police on Ruta 14 apparently use it to fleece travellers out of a bit more money. I also belong to several non-English forums and Google translate on Chrome browser makes it easy.

Tip to take the US tags off the licence plates is a good one because the title is what they expect to be shown anyway. Guess the TUV badge on German plates would be similar as is the MOT sticker on British cars. Some Australian states don't issue "rego stickers" any longer, but trouble is they don't have titles, only annual rego document. My Montana-registered vehicles are over ten years old so they have permanent tags on the license plates so that solves that problem.
